Mandalay, with its fortified royal palace, established as the capital of pre-colonial Burma in 1800's. This is a view at sunset across the 230 foot wide moat to a section of the 26 foot high, 4 miles long wall. When the British in 1885 colonized Burma, they exiled the existing royalty to India. Since independence and later the military coupe in the 1962, the area is used by the military with no admittance by the public.
